Navigating International Law: French Senators Meet with Philippines' Department of National Defense

French senators emphasized respect for international law, including UNCLOS, during a meeting with the Philippines' Department of National Defense amid tensions in the West Philippine Sea. Both sides discussed challenges and opportunities for island states and highlighted the need for broader cooperation in defense and security. Greenfield opportunities in development and mariculture sectors were also mentioned. The visit followed the brief visit by French Minister for the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu in December 2023.
